Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the Seneca High School Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) program! As the Aerospace Science Instructors, we are both very excited to be at Seneca, and are looking forward to getting our program off to a great start.

The mission of AFJROTC is to “Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” Our goal is for every student to succeed academically (in all classes), display personal responsibility which reflects credit upon themselves and the Air Force at all times, and develop a sense of pride and accomplishment in themselves, our school, and AFJROTC. This is not a military recruitment class and there is never a military service obligation for JROTC participation. Course subject matter will include leadership (to include drill & ceremonies), Aviation History, the Science of Flight, Global Cultures, and physical training. Classes may have guest speakers and/or go on field trips(many travel costs covered by the Air Force or students may be asked to cover travel costs) related to the subject material.

Additionally, all cadets will be issued and required to wear the Air Force JROTC uniform one day each week. A complete uniform will be loaned to each cadet at no cost, but it is the student’s responsibility to take care of the uniform and return it in good, clean condition at the end of the year. Wear of the AFJROTC uniform is an important part of the class, and will factor into their grade. The cadets will learn how to wear and maintain their uniform according to AFJROTC guidelines,(including appropriate haircut/hairstyle). Failure to wear the uniform on assigned days and maintain appearance standards may result in removal from the class or a zero grade for that day.

We hope you will feel free to contact us, either by phone or email, if you ever have any concerns or questions about our program or your child’s performance, and we will do the same if we have any concerns on our end. Finally, prior to participating in any physical training (PT) activities, all students are required to have their parent/legal guardian complete and sign a Cadet Health and Wellness Participation Consent form. In addition to this form, all Cadets who plan on participating in the Competition Drill Team this school year will be required to complete a sports physical as Seneca groups the JROTC Competition Drill team with all other sports teams. If you have not already done so, please take a moment to complete both the enclosed forms,“Student Request for Permission for Participation in Extra-Curricular Activities”, and the “Parent’s Authorization for Pupil’s Participation”, and have your child return them to us. These will cover all AFJROTC activities, to include PT, field trips, drill, and any related extra-curricular activities.Thank you for your support of the Seneca AFJROTC program. We look forward to a great year and working together to ensure your child's success.
